Peter Holzer is Professor of Experimental Neurogastroenterology at the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology of the Medical University of Graz in Austria and Dean of Doctoral Studies. He earned a PhD in Physiology from the University of Graz (1978), was a British Council Scholar at the Babraham Institute and University of Cambridge in 1980, and a fellow of the Max Kade Foundation at the University of California in Los Angeles in 1989. He served as Secretary of the Gastrointestinal Pharmacology Section of IUPHAR and as President of the Austrian Pharmacological Society. His many awards include the Grand Decoration of Honour (Austria), the Masters Award in Digestive Sciences (AGA), and the recognition as Highly Cited Researcher in Pharmacology (ISI). His research focusses on the neuropharmacology of gut-brain interactions and addresses the interplay of gut hormones, immune mediators and neuropeptides in shaping gastrointestinal as well as cerebral function.
